Winter Farmhouse Decor with the Farmhouse Hens

 Winter Farmhouse Vignettes

A new year has started and I am thrilled to share the first post of the year with the Farmhouse Hens.    This great group of DIY bloggers is organized to make 2018 our best year yet.  So happy to have you here and I know they will inspire you.   The other Farmhouse Hens links are located at the end of my post.

Where we live Winter will last a few more months it’s a long time before we can be outside celebrating Spring.  Using white decor for Christmas made transitioning to Winter decor incredibly easy.  I removed the trees, the bling, and extra sparkles and kept the greenery, winter animal art,  cushions, throws and some snowflakes.

I began by using fur fabric for both the tablecloth and for the candlesticks. The fur was too heavy and slippery, it would not stay in place on the candle.  I  bought a thrift store sweater and dug out a plaid throw and I love how it turned out.

The rustic bear string art picture is a Christmas gift, isn’t it grand.   It looks easy to make as well.  The mama bear with her three baby bears commemorates my years as a single Mom.  Momma bear and her three cubs my daughter in law said.

Cover the Candle Stick

The candlestick and jar do not need to match, just make sure the wool sleeves are long enough to cover the ones you choose.

For the tall candlestick fold the cuff of the sleeve over and hand stitch in place.  I added some lace, but that is optional.   Pull the wool sleeve over the candlestick.  Wrap elastics along the top to hold it in place.  On my example, the lace covers them, if you don’t use lace, make the folded cuff wide enough to cover the elastics.   Fold the bottom under a little bit and either stitch or glue a small hem.

Twist the wool around to give it a swirl effect, the weight of the wool holds it in place.  Place a battery operated candle on top.

Cover the Jar

Choose a jar or vase and fit the wool sleeve over it.  Turn the top over like a cuff and tuck the bottom edge in around the bottom.

Scatter the snowflakes around in a pattern you like.  I enjoy having the two snowflakes placed  to act like little backgrounds.

Other ideas for Winter Decor

After all the clutter of Christmas, I prefer to keep the Winter decor much simpler.  Here is some other simple to do ideas that will make your home feel cozy.

Arrange greenery and pinecones into a tray.

Fill jars with Epson salts, add small lights.

Light candles

Place rugs around, especially if you have bare floors.

Place throws on the couch and add fur and/or wool covered pillows.

Place some white branches into a vase or white flowers.  In Canada this time of year I wouldn’t recommend flowers as it is so cold.

    1. Hello Sam. I used the snowflakes for Christmas decor in my large front window. For the life of me I couldn’t get a good picture of them to share.

  1. Leanna, I am so in love with the rustic bear string art!! What a great gift! The use of the sweaters really just says Winter and makes the vignette so cozy!! Such a beautiful Winter vignette!! Happy New Year my friend!

    1. I loved my gift, my daughter in law and I have the same likes and tastes. It was perfect for a farmhouse vignette. It’s going to be lots of work but I am sure we will have a great year. Happy New Year you too.

    1. Absolutely Debra. I have fur throws in every room and fur cushions, slippers, and hoodies. I use them all lol. Have a great week.
