Glass Container Farmhouse Makeovers

I get blog inspiration from various sources, part of my home that needs a makeover or something I see while shopping (ex. Benjamin Moore now sells chalk paint), Then their are the materials I have laying around that need to get used, something my grand daughters are interested in and Pinterest of course. Sometimes ideas come from a theme like crochet, baking, painting, silhouette, shabby chic, faeries, or an upcoming holiday.  My blog is very young and so…

Tea Cloths and Galvanized Containers

I would define my decor taste as contemporary traditional.  I want my home to look modern, but shy away from anything too trendy.  I know as trends change, Leanna would want to grab everything new again.  I consciously choose from different design looks and then compile  it into a look we like. That said, I really adore the farmhouse trend, I would love to plank my ceilings, put in galvanized fixtures and huge farm sinks.  I…

Farmhouse Cookie Jar Makeover

With the decor updating I end up not only shopping too much, but it gets to be a bit of a storage issue.  This time I decided to “shop” in my storage room, the garage and the china cabinet. I gathered an assortment of clear glass containers, pitchers, jars and buckets to create some farmhouse style accessories.  My hope is to finish them in less than half an hour each.  With a few additions they should look very much like…

Guest Room Ladder

Whether you enjoy overnight guests or maybe not so much, it’s almost that time of year. Children will be out of school, roads will be clear and dry and we will all likely be thinking “road trip.”  Now that the boys have moved on I have a defined guest room for company. I hang pretty towels in the bathrooms mostly for display and place hand towels on the counters for use.  We take a fresh…

faerie end table

Finishing DIY Farmhouse Bed & End Table.

We decided to finish one of our guest bedrooms. It had a mattress on a frame and small Ikea nightstand; although functional not very welcoming.  We started by making a farmers bed using Ana Whites Farmhouse Bed pattern. It took Herman and I a full day to build it, and me a whole week to finish it. My go to colour is always white.  It brightens any room and is easy to update with accessories. …

Faerie Peony

DIY Fabric Peony Arrangement

Make your Own DIY Fabric Peony Real fresh flowers are always the nicest, whether they are from a garden or purchased.  I treat myself to real flower bouquets a few times a year, but cannot afford them year around.  My outdoor garden is not mature and worse our yard is tiny, so the blossoms we have outdoors, I leave to enjoy outside. The high quality fabric flowers are up to $19 a blossom and the…

Master Bedroom Refresh

Our home has a small master bedroom.  I can live with that.   We  painted the bedroom three years ago in blue, Herman’s favorite colour. The blue was great to start with, but it gradually turned darker. The bedroom has two small windows and lighting is a challenge.  I tried lightening the room with white bedding, it helped a little, but it was still very dark.   The  awful builder grade light fixture gave off no…

Mason Jar Centerpiece

Mason Jar Decor is Still Popular I am really glad that mason jars are still in style.  The mason jar continues to be used in a variety of ways in home decor.   They are practical, useful and sturdy.   The mason jar has an interesting history,  I wrote a post about the mason jar’s  history. We made a few of these to sell at local craft fairs in various colours.  This one is my…
